Support Friends of Waring

Waring students are officially enjoying our new school library and we’re thrilled you want to be part of this transformative experience with us! Students visit the library once per week. During their visit, our team of dedicated volunteers read stories, help students share book reviews, and assist students in finding the perfect title to check out.

The Friends of Waring library does not have its own librarian, we are staffed solely by our passionate volunteers who are incredibly important in our efforts to foster a love of books and reading with Waring students.

Students that have access to school libraries achieve higher levels of academic success and score higher on standardized tests.

Schools with libraries provide students with opportunities to develop reading and literacy skills, foster critical thinking and empower students to inquire, explore and create.

In addition to enhancing the learning experience of students, libraries offer support to teachers by providing resources to enhance lessons/curriculum and opportunities for collaboration to better meet the literacy and reading needs of students.

Libraries make lifelong learners, contribute to the positive climate and culture of a school, and impact student well-being.

Here’s What We Know

Volunteer

Library volunteers act as role models for students as they share experiences, build student self-esteem, and foster a love of reading through stories.

They help boost attendance, improve student social skills, model the value of education, and help build neighborhood relationships.

Volunteers gain empathy, learn new skills, lower stress, discover new books, and have fun.

Complete all required clearances & bring copies of each to your scheduled training session:

PA Criminal History Record Check

Child Abuse History Clearance

FBI Background Check with Fingerprinting (If you’ve lived in PA for less than 10 years)

OR just sign the Volunteer Affirmation Code (If you’ve lived in PA for 10 or more years)

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated. Mask-wearing adheres to Philadelphia School District guidance.

We will contact you to schedule a 30-minute training session in the library to review our guidelines, learn our tracking system, and get a general layout of the library and processes.
