Friends of Waring is a volunteer-based group committed to the creation, management, and success of the Laura W. Waring Elementary School Library.

Making An Impact

The Laura W. Waring Elementary School library was closed for over ten (10) years leaving students without a critical resource to support their literacy and academic achievement.

Friends of Waring recognizes the positive impact access to books can make for students. We have made it our mission to ensure Waring students have a library experience that fosters a love of reading and encourages life-long learning.

The Friends of Waring library officially opened to students in March 2022. Our collection of books supports student learning, celebrates diversity and inclusion, and reflects the life experiences of the Waring student body.

The library is staffed and supported by an ever-growing group of community volunteers who welcome students with a smile, read with students, and help them choose the perfect books to borrow each week.

Funding for the library comes through organizational partnerships, a grant from the Neubauer Family Foundation, and generous gifts and donations from community members and businesses.

Serving the Community

Research shows that students with access to school libraries achieve higher levels of academic success and score higher on standardized tests.

Libraries make lifelong learners, contribute to a school’s positive climate and culture, and impact student well-being.

Schools with libraries provide students with opportunities to develop reading and literacy skills, foster critical thinking, and empower students to inquire, explore and create.

Laura W. Waring Elementary

The mission of Waring Elementary School is to cultivate the intellect, foster character, and ignite the imagination of our students so they can become leaders who choose their own futures.

Waring Elementary School serves students in grades K through 8th living in Spring Garden, Francisville, and surrounding neighborhoods. Students are supported by administrators, teachers, and support staff.

Students benefit from community involvement via a weekly Art program funded by Spring Garden CDC and their library powered by Friends of Waring.
