Meet Our Volunteers

Jan Roberts

Hi! I’m Jan Roberts, and my favorite part of volunteering at Waring is reading to the kiddos. I have lived in the art museum area of Philly for eight years since moving from Alabama. I’m a retired elementary school teacher. I mostly taught first grade and Robert Munsch was absolutely my favorite author to share with my students. My first graders couldn’t get enough of his silliness! A couple of favorites are Moira’s Birthday and Purple, Green, and Yellow. Check them out!

Ellen Sinoff

Hi! I’m Ellen Sinoff. I live in Fairmount. I’m retired now, but have lived in many places and had many careers, from a cafe in Key West to villas in Italy. Two of my favorite things are kids and books, which is why I became a children’s librarian. I worked at the Free Library of Philadelphia, at a school near Media and a public library in Vermont. I have more favorite children’s books than I could list, but Caps for Sale and The Story of Ferdinand are two. I travel quite a bit, but love coming to the Waring library when I can. It’s always the highlight of my day!

Simonne Brissenden

Hi! I’m Simonne Brissenden, and I am a pediatric nurse living in Fairmount. Growing up, I loved to read. One of my favorite series was the Magic Tree House. I am excited to share my passion for reading with the students at Waring!
